Rural Health Mission Opens 50 New Sub-Centres in Tribal Belt
The National Health Mission (NHM), Rajasthan has inaugurated 50 new health sub-centres across tribal-dominated districts of Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, and Pratapgarh. The sub-centres, staffed by trained ANMs and health workers, will bring basic primary healthcare within 3–5 km of remote tribal villages that previously had no formal health facility.
Each sub-centre is equipped with a delivery room, basic diagnostic equipment, a drug storage unit, and telemedicine connectivity to the nearest CHC or district hospital for specialist consultations.
Addressing Historical Gaps
The tribal belt of south Rajasthan has historically had the worst health indicators in the state — high maternal mortality, childhood malnutrition, and endemic diseases like malaria and TB. These new facilities are targeted specifically at closing this gap.
Telemedicine Integration
A notable feature of the new sub-centres is their integration with the state’s telemedicine network. ANMs can connect patients directly to district hospital specialists via a tablet-based video consultation system, ensuring that patients in remote areas don’t miss out on specialist care simply due to geographical barriers.
The Health Secretary said the government plans to add another 100 sub-centres in the tribal belt over the next two years, backed by World Bank funding under the Rajasthan Health Systems Development Project.
