Free Eye Camp Restores Vision for 500 Patients in Jodhpur
A three-day mega free eye camp organised by Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, Jodhpur in collaboration with the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) has successfully performed free cataract surgeries for over 500 patients from rural areas of Jodhpur, Barmer, and Jaisalmer districts.
The camp, held at the hospital premises, screened over 1,800 patients in three days. Patients with cataracts were operated upon immediately, while others were given free medicines, spectacles, and referred for further treatment as required.
Restoring Sight, Changing Lives
Many of the patients operated upon had been living with impaired or no vision for years, unable to afford surgery. For several elderly patients, it was their first time seeing clearly in over a decade.
“I couldn’t see my grandchildren’s faces for three years,” said 72-year-old Rampyari Devi from Barmer. “Today I can see everything clearly.” Her sentiments echoed across the camp where family members tearfully embraced their loved ones after successful surgeries.
A Regular Effort
The hospital conducts such camps quarterly across rural Rajasthan, targeting villages where access to eye care is minimal. The next camp is scheduled in Sirohi district next month. Patients can register at the hospital OPD or through the 104 helpline.
